Association of thyroid hormone sensitivity index with stroke in patients with coronary artery disease

Thyroid hormones (THs) will affect the occurrence and prognosis of stroke, and the research on THs sensitivity index and stroke in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) is scarce. The goal of this study is to look into the relationship between central and peripheral THs sensitivity index and stroke in patients with CHD. This study demonstrates that the increase in the central THs sensitivity index and the decrease in the peripheral THs sensitivity index are associated with a higher risk of stroke in CHD patients, and provides new ideas for the assessment of stroke in patients with CHD.

Left atrial appendage occlusion in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage: An observational study

Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) are at high risk of ischemic and recurrent bleeding events. Therefore, the decision of restarting or avoiding anticoagulation is challenging. Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) is an alternative for these patients. However, few data are available about safety of early LAAO and factors associated with ischemic stroke and ICH recurrence. In patients with ICH and AF, early LAAO was found to be safe and associated with a reduction in ischemic stroke. However, recurrent ICH risk remains high, and it appears to be mainly driven by cerebral amyloid angiopathy.

Feasibility and user-experience of a virtual environment for social connection and education after stroke: A pilot study

To evaluate the feasibility and usability of stroke survivor participation in an 8-week virtual environment intervention that provides opportunities for social support exchanges, social network interactions, and recovery education. Similar to other chronic disease populations, stroke survivor adoption of a virtual environment likely requires ongoing technical assistance, repetition of instructions, and opportunities for practice to reinforce engagement.

Loss of Gucy1a3 causes poor post-stroke recovery by reducing angiogenesis via the HIF-1α/VEGFA signaling pathway in mice

Ischemic stroke is a common and debilitating disease that can cause permanent neurological damage. Gucy1a3, which encodes the α1 subunit of soluble guanylyl cyclase, has been reported to be associated with functional recovery after ischemic stroke. However, the mechanism is still not well understood. In the present study, we investigated the effects of Gucy1a3 on (i) post-stroke recovery; (ii) vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) and hypoxia inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF-1α) expression; and (iii) angiogenesis after ischemic stroke. Our study indicates that GUCY1A3 might be involved in angiogenesis after ischemic stroke. Further investigation of GUCY1A3 will provide a new therapeutic target for stroke.
